Hey! My name is Brady Owen, and I am a Sophomore Sports Media Major with a minor in Marketing at Indiana University Bloomington. I am currently a photographer with The Hoosier Network and the Little 500 Network, and I am also employed as a multimedia photographer with Indiana University’s Office of Student Life.
As a photographer for The Hoosier Network and the Little 500 Network, I have created photo content for a variety of Indiana University athletic teams, as well as coverage for both the fall and spring Little 500 events. My responsibilities included capturing in-game action, behind the scenes moments, and producing content for social media and web stories. These experiences taught me how to work efficiently under pressure, remain creative in dynamic situations, and collaborate within a team focused on delivering high quality sports coverage.
My goals to move forward in the sports media industry will be to continue to expand my media portfolio and continuing to gain experience and learn from my peers. As I progress into the professional sports landscape, I would like to continue to bring new ideas into the industry and make an impact on how sports media is viewed and enjoyed.
Why did I get into sports photography?
Sports and creativity have always been a big part of my life. I have been playing sports since I was five years old and grew up constantly watching games and being out on the field. My mom is a photographer, so cameras were always around when I was growing up, as she would always be taking photos of me playing, which invited me to the idea of photography. In high school, I took a sports journalism class and started creating graphics for our sports teams. When I stopped playing sports during my senior year, I still wanted to be involved in sports since all my close friends were on the football and baseball teams, so using my mom’s camera to shoot games became my way of staying connected to sport. I have always enjoyed creating things, whether it was taking art classes or making and editing videos of me playing video games, I think that sports photography became the perfect combination of sports, creativity, and storytelling.
